I know I only woke up at Hour 9, but still. I also missed out on the FREE RICE challenge, which I'm really sad about coz I LOVE freerice! :( Ah well, I'll just have to go back to playing freerice for no particular reason again! ;) I also missed hour 12 (or was it 13?) coz I went to McD's with my friend- brunch at the hall isn't the best! ;) Hope everyones having a good time- I'd better get back to cheering! =D Also, the hour 14 mini-challenge asks you what your foodporn of choice is...!

I’m not sure if they’ll be considered heroes or not, but I’ve always loved cute things. Recently, I haven’t been able to stop watching Curious George lately (the movie kind of has a calming effect on me), so I’ll have to go with him! He just looks so cute, doesn’t he? I just want to hug him and have him all to myself! =D

* Which fictional hero would you most like to be held hostage by?Hmmmm… that’s a tough one! I really like JD from Scrubs, he seems like a really funny guy to hang out with- and things won’t get boring with his freaky daydreams. That, and he seems too nice to lock me in a dungeon and starve me to death! ;)
* Which fictional world would you most like to be held hostage in?
I’ve always thought that Bayern and Kildenree from The Goose Girl (by Shannon Hale) would be really nice to live in. There is magic but it isn’t overwhelmingly ‘supernatural’, so it wouldn’t be so scary. =) It’s not too dark, and it isn’t boringly safe either! Ooh, and if it was a movie it'd definitely be Charlie and the Chocolate factory (For obvious reasons!)- the orignal one though! ;)

I know it isn’t exactly Tuesday anymore ;) but I just found this at Kelsey’s blog Reading Keeps You Sane (which is very awesome by the way!) and really wanted to do it! To participate you have to:

The book I’m reading right now is: Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher (Oh yeah, and the quotes are from page 36) =D

Make what you will of that! I’m only up to page 70, but it’s a great read so far. There are quite a few reviews I’ve seen that say it’s a tearjerker, so keep those tissues handy. If you want to give Teaser Tuesday a try then go to Should Be Reading.

I am so, so sorry for my lack of posts lately! There has recently been an outbreak of (shock! horror!) Norovirus here in Dunedin. =( And I was unfortunate enough to catch it, so I've kinda been on a blogging hiatus.
It’s not all that surprising considering how many students live here though. In other news it is now MID SEMESTER BREAK! Woot! =) Lots of people are going home for the holidays, so it’ll be fairly quiet. It’s a great chance to catch up on my laundry, and that's always a good thing! ;) No more drunk people knocking on doors and turning on the (very loud) microwave at four in the morning. (finger's crossed) There's hardly anyone around on my floor so I am VERY tempted to stay in my PJs all day!
I hope everyone's having fun wherever you are! =D

Holly, Casee and Rowena at Book Binge have these two books up for grabs... Hmmm, I keep forgetting the names... Oh, that's right BREAKING DAWN by Stephenie Meyer (#4 Twilight Saga) and ACHERON by Sherrilyn Kenyon (#12 Dark Hunter series)!!!! New Layout! =D

Hey there everyone!
I finally got a new layout like I've been wanting to do since April. I just never found one that I liked all that much, and on Pyzam most of the good designs just has the image on either the left or the right side and not EVERYWHERE. (=D) Do you like this one? It's called purple butterflies (obviously), but do you think it's too girly? Or too purple? I honestly have no idea, I was just glad I found a decent looking, all over pattern! It was really hard getting the layout with all of my old widgets, but thanks to some awesome bloggers, I managed to read the code well enough to keep them! I hope whoever is reading this has a great day! =D (that is if anyone is reading this at all, lol!)

I wrote a few entries a little while ago, but I get sort of shy and sheepish when it comes to showing people the things I write. I know this isn't as good as most of the reviews you'll read but I had a lot of fun writing it! So, on with the review...!

When Cameron suddenly reappears, they are both confronted with memories of their shared past and the drastically different paths their lives have taken.From the National Book Award nominated author of Story of a Girl, Sweethearts is a story about the power of memory, the bond of friendship, and the quiet resilience of our childhood hearts.”

BOOK REVIEW:
This is the second book from National Book Award nominated author Sara Zarr, but it was the first one I’ve read. When I try to find a good book to read, I usually look at the lists on Amazon. I’d seen Sweethearts and Story of a Girl on them so many times, that I thought I’d see what all the fuss was about.
Now, usually I tend to overhype books in my head, so when I finally read it I get disappointed. But not this time. Sweethearts is fantastic! You know how sometimes it takes a while to really get into a book? To understand the characters and absorb the tone of the book? Well, I got into the book from page one, (which hardly ever happens with me) and read almost non-stop until I was done! That’s how good this book was!
The main story is about Jennifer Harris, whose overworked single mother barely has enough time for her. So, the only person that she can really rely on is her best (and only) friend Cameron. They are both poor and non-Mormon which sets them apart from the other kids at school. Cameron was always the one that defended her when other kids mocked her weight and lisp. But one day Cameron mysteriously disappears, and the kids at school tell her that he’s dead. So, Jennifer loses the weight, changes schools and eventually becomes popular. But on her 16th birthday she gets a card from the supposedly ‘dead’ Cameron. Cameron then comes to her school, and stirs up feelings in her that she thought she’d forgotten.
Despite it's appearance, this book is not particularly about romance. In fact Cameron and Jenna never even kiss. Yes, Cameron and Jennifer are soulmates, but it’s more about how one person can change your life, and make you understand yourself more. Jenna learns that she’s braver than she ever thought she was, and Cameron realizes that to be a responsible adult, he should go back to his siblings, and be the role model he never had. One of my favourite parts of the book is when Jennifer and Cameron take a drive down to their old school and Cameron reminds her of how they first became friends and finally fills her in on what happened when he was gone. Another favourite moment would have to be when Jennifer reads the letter Cameron sends to her in the end. It was just so sweet and heartfelt!
Unlike some stories Sweethearts does not thrive on action, but is more of a character-driven novel. All of Jennifer’s internal monologues are written superbly.
The language and the way this book is written is beautiful and evocative. And I don’t mean it has those long cloying descriptions either, but you can tell that the words that Sara Zarr uses have been chosen carefully. It just flows, and it isn’t over the top. Here is an excerpt from the last chapter:
“Sometimes I still stare into space and think about Cameron. I think about how there are certain people who come into your life, and leave a mark. I don’t mean the usual faint impression...And I don’t just mean that they change you...I’m talking about the ones who, for whatever reason, are as much a part of you as your own soul. Their place in your heart is tender; a bruise of longing, a pulse of unfinished business...Just hearing their name pushes and pulls at you in a hundred ways, and when you try to define them even to yourself, words are useless. If you had a lifetime to talk, there would still be things left unsaid.”

I was browsing through blogskins.com today, and it was so hard finding something I liked that would work for this blog! *sighs* I'm beginning to lose hope... Mid-Semester break is over!

Back to school! Sadly to Otago Uni student's disgruntlement (I don't even know if that's a word!) Uni has started again. That means for lectures, and a chem test on Saturday (Eeek!) that I have yet to study for!
I wanted to fix up this blog, but I don't have the time right now. :( Not that I even think that anyone is even reading this, lol! I don't really like my header blog profile thingy so I'm definitely gonna be changing that! :)
